Salesforce is recognized as the market leader in CRM with a broad range of products, but they aren’t the right fit for every organization.

We have many clients who were previously using Salesforce and who have now switched to Workbooks.  The three most common reasons why are:

  • License Costs:  Workbooks is significantly less expensive than Salesforce.

  • Failed Implementation:  Any CRM solution can be poorly deployed and adopted, Salesforce is no exception.

  • Vendor Relationship: In the mid-market Salesforce works through partners; our clients prefer to deal directly with the vendor and not an intermediary.


License Cost

Entry level pricing for CRM edition, which includes sales and customer support, starts at $34 per user per month.

Order processing & invoicing is included in our Business edition at $71 per user per month.

Salesforce’s entry level pricing starts at $75 per user per month, nearly 3x the price of Workbooks CRM edition, despite offering similar functionality. This rises to $150 for the Enterprise Licenses, which includes functionality that is standard in both Workbooks CRM and Business editions. And if you want to do invoicing in Salesforce, you need to buy third party plug-ins or build it yourself.

Sales & Service Functionality Workbooks CRM edition includes both sales and support functionality in the same license. Salesforce requires you to buy both, so if you want the Professional edition for Sales and Service Cloud, the price increases. 
API, Sandbox & Workflows

All Workbooks editions include 5 databases at standard, typically one live database and 4 for testing and development.

API and Automation Engine is included in all editions.

If you want to integrate Salesforce with other systems, you need to be on the Enterprise edition. Workflows are only included in Enterprise edition.

Only a basic Sandbox is included in the Salesforce licences. Full Sandbox incurs an extra cost.

Mix & Match  Workbooks allows you to mix your licenses across users. If you want some CRM edition and some Business edition, that’s completely fine. Salesforce requires all users to be on the same license level. If some of your users need Enterprise edition features, everyone needs to pay for that license level.


Commercial Approach As a Workbooks customer, you contract directly with us for the provision of the service, technical support and implementation.

You have a single partner to work with to achieve your desired outcomes.

Salesforce sell the license directly, but you are left to find a Salesforce accredited partner for the implementation. Salesforce do have many partners, all of whom rely on the revenue they generate from consultancy services to stay in business.

If you need additional functionality from the Salesforce ecosystem, which is highly likely, you need a third relationship with the provider of the plug-in.

Implementation Approach & Costs Workbooks offers two approaches:
Jumpstart: Pre-packaged deployments for sales, marketing or customer support, designed to address the common requirements we see in mid-size companies. Price starts at $8,400.Shared Success: We run an initial workshop with you to determine the business outcomes you require and how they can be achieved. The workshop is run at your offices over 2 days and we co-fund the work, providing 6 days of consultancy at $4,200. Following the workshop, if you move ahead with Workbooks we’ll provide up to 20 days of free implementation services*.
It’s different depending on the Salesforce partner you choose.

Most Salesforce partners have a sensible methodology for implementation, however the real difference is the commercials. Salesforce consultancy rates are typically higher than Workbooks’ and because these organizations make their money purely on services, they can’t afford to give free or discounted days away. In contrast Workbooks offers up to 20 free days under our shared success program.
