Automation
In your business you probably have process workflows that require the same set of actions to be performed on a regular basis. With Workbooks, you can automate common and repetitive tasks, making these easier and less error-prone for users.
NOTE: Automation features are not included in the free edition of Workbooks.
Tip
Look in the Script Library to find example scripts and code samples.
Processes and Workbooks Scripts
The Automation area within Workbooks allows you to define Processes and enable them to be run according to a schedule, when a record is changed, or when requested via a process button. These forms of Process invoke Workbooks Scripts which contain step-by-step programming instructions.
The concept of a ‘Script’ in Workbooks, is separate from that of a ‘Process’, to enable users to easily create multiple processes without necessarily requiring many scripts. For example, you might create a ‘USD order’ Process Button and a ‘GBP order’ Process Button. Each invokes the same Script, but with different parameters.
Workbooks Scripts are maintained and run within Workbooks and are built using a widely-used programming language called PHP. You may have the in-house skills to write the required PHP but if not, you can engage Workbooks to write the Scripts for you. Workbooks also provides a ‘Script Library‘ within the Scripts area which contains frequently requested scripts and samples to get you started. Scripts that you use for processes can be held either in your own My Scripts library or in the global Script Library. Scripts stored in the global Script Library are generic but offer the benefit of being maintained by Workbooks.
